United States - One People

Gift from Gramma MiMi

Thank you GrammaMiMi for the lovely gift

Even non-Christians have, at some point in their live, heard the song...Jesus Loves Me

"Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world. Red & yellow, black & white, they are precious in his sight. Jesus loves the little children of the world."

In this time of sorrow, I have heard from and about people all over the world grieving for Americans. The Queen of England ordered her guards to play the American National Anthem during the changing of her guards, an unprecedented symbol. Memorial sites have been created by Australians and the British. I have personally recieved emails from Canada, Bulgaria, and Singapore from people sending prayers and sharing our grief.

It's easy to focus on our own losses. The numbers of dead and missing is devastating. But we are not the only ones who have lost loved ones. I saw three Germans named in the list of casualties. One hundred (or more) Brits were working in the towers. These people had family, too. Please remember them in your prayers.

Update April 2002: International losses include--3 Australians, 5 Canadians, 11 English, 13 Japanese, 12 Mexicans, and 16 Jamaicans. Final count--3022 souls dead or missing. For more statistics visit September 11 Victims.

I am so proud to be an American. No matter what else is true about Americans, one thing is certain: When the going gets tough...the tough get going. We are tough. We are resiliant. We are survivors. And America will prevail. America will win this battle against terror!

I wrote these two poems.
Fireman Lost

The room is dark,
she sits alone,
the images flash on t.v.
The kids are in bed now,
friends have gone home,
and her mommy sleeps in the chair.

It's late at night
quiet and still
images flash through her mind.
The day they met
the day they married
the day he took his oath.

Her heart fills with pride,
her tears flow unchecked,
as the images flash on t.v.
Pride collides with sadness and terror
as she waits in the dark
for news about her hero...

her husband
fireman lost.

Fellow American

Fellow American
I pray for you,
for your brother,
your husband, your son.
Missing in action
in a war he didn't even know
he was fighting

Fellow American
I cry with you
sitting on the edge of my seat
feeling useless, frustrated, lost
wanting to do more than
give blood and prayer.

Fellow American
we will overcome
together in crisis
we stand as one!
Proud, Free, Brave
We are United States Americans!
